Working for the Council
We employ over 700 people across ten service areas, from clerical assistants and leisure attendants to lawyers, planners and engineers. So whether you're a school leaver looking for your first job, a returner ready to come back to work part-time or someone interested in building a long-term career with us, we might have something to suit you. In whatever capacity you join us, you'll be making a direct contribution to improving the lives of local people. The Council Chamber

The District
This is one of great contrasts, from commuter towns such as Loughton, Chigwell and Buckhurst Hill to attractive villages such as Theydon Bois and North Weald. The District takes its name from an ancient forest, which is now protected for the enjoyment of future generations.

Not many places offer you leafy surroundings within half an hour's reach of the West End. With the Central Line, M25, M11 and Stansted Airport nearby, we enjoy excellent transport links.

Leisure options include everything from golf and horse riding to bird watching, walking and angling at Lee Valley Park. We also have five superbly equipped sports centres, a museum and a wide choice of pubs and restaurants.
